Earth Stewards (Fall)
5th Grade

Students become field scientists for a day -- recording their findings in an Earth Steward Journal included with the course -- as they investigate either a wetland, prairie or savanna ecosystem:

After learning some basic plant identification skills, students draw and answer questions about a plant specific to their ecosystem.

Honing their observation skills, they search for signs of animals and make inferences about their hands-on discoveries.

They also discover how human activities have impacted our native ecosystems and how restoration and land management can repair some of the damage.

Students will take on a restoration activity such as seed collecting, invasive plant removal, or planting of native plants.
