Library
The Lockhart Family Nature Center library is a wonderful resource for the community. You are welcome to stop in to look up the beautiful yellow and black warbler or leaf-like caterpillar cocoon you saw on a hike in one of Open Lands' preserves. Students working on a biology project, teachers creating new curricula, scout troop leaders planning outings, and gardeners looking for ideas on native plants for their backyard have all come to the nature center and found just what they needed in our library.
Parents and grandparents enjoy stopping by on a Saturday afternoon to read picture books with their young ones on their lap in a cozy chair by our fireplace. The library also has puzzles, coloring books and lots of native animal puppets for young visitors to enjoy. Families with young children are encouraged to check out at no charge our educational Vincent Vole Discovery Packs. These packs are chock full of discovery tools and directions for a self-guided nature tour on the Mellody Farm Nature Preserve.
Though books and periodicals are not available for check out, you are welcome to stop by and use this community resource during our public hours, 2:30pm to 4:30pm, Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.
The Open Lands education staff is on hand to help you find the books you need. |
