Discoveries

Our remnant prairies, wetlands and woodlands as well as our restored properties are important habitat for a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Regardless of the season and whether one is a professional scientist or recreational user each visit to a preserve provides a wonderful opportunity for discovery and learning.

If you would like to learn more about the plants and animals that are found in the preserves, please consider participating in one of our education programs or visit our Lockhart Family Nature Center.

Rove Beetle Discovery
The last sighting of a Rove beetle in the Chicago area took place in 1960. Over 40 years later, a DePaul University student spotted another in Shaw Prairie. Download PDF.
